Beneficiaries:
People residing in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions can benefit from Tuberculosis Management Program free of charge.
Scope of the Program:
The Tuberculosis Management Program provides for the tests/analysis needed to diagnose tuberculosis, as well as the medication for the entire course of treatment.
The Program provides both outpatient and inpatient services. To diagnose tuberculosis, the doctor decides which analysis is necessary to be conducted in a particular case from the overall analysis envisaged within the Program. If consequently tuberculosis is confirmed, the patient will continue treatment under the supervision of a phthisiologist.
Engagement in the Program and documents to be submitted:
Patient, upon the referral of the family doctor or himself (spontaneously), can apply to a medical institution participating in the Program. Following the initial visit, a phthisiologist advises the patient whether inpatient treatment is needed.
To engage in the Program, a person residing in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions should:
- Possess a personal identification number granted as result of registration; or
- Possess a neutral ID (SNID) or neutral travel document (SNTD); or
- Possess an ID Card of Georgian citizen.

Program Funding:
The services provided by the Program are fully funded and do not envisage any co-payment from a patient.
Medicines for the treatment are given to a patient free of charge, which they should receive under the direct supervision of the designated medical staff. For this purpose, the patient should apply to the medical institution where they will be registered, or with the agreement of the doctor - video surveillance method will be used.
Within the Program, financial reward is applied for outpatients with the aim to incentivize them to regularly receive the medicine. The payment transferred to the patient's personal bank account, opened in any Georgian bank.
Tuberculosis can be successfully treated in outpatient setting in case the receipt of medication is strictly observed. If necessary, tuberculosis-related surgical treatment and complex examinations/analysis are also funded.
