TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH RARE DISEASES AND PATIENTS SUBJECT TO PERMANENT REPLACEMENT THERAPY

Diseases are considered to be rare if:

 

  • Frequency of the disease in the population is less than 1 per 2,000 inhabitants;
  • It is life-threatening and/or leads to disability
  • It is characterized by a chronic, often severe course; and
  • Requires multidisciplinary management.

 

Beneficiaries:

 

People residing in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions can benefit from the Program for the treatment of patients with rare diseases and patients subject to permanent replacement therapy.

 

Scope of the Program:

 

Goal of the program is to improve the health conditions of patients with rare diseases and patients subject to permanent replacement treatment, by increasing their financial access to medical services and medicines.

 

The Program includes outpatient services for children under the age of 18 with rare diseases: in accordance with the nosologies defined by the Program – consultation of a doctor (including specialists), conducting of clinical-laboratory and instrumental examinations necessary for ambulatory supervision of rare diseases, issuing prescriptions and of medical reports.

 

The Program also provides inpatient services for children under 18 with rare diseases and those subject to permanent replacement treatment, as well as outpatient and inpatient services for children and adults suffering from hemophilia and other hereditary blood coagulation pathologies.

 

The program provides patients with rare diseases with specific medicines.

 

Engagement in the Program and documents to be submitted:

 

To engage in the Program a person residing in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions should:  

  • Possess a personal identification number granted as result of registration; or
  • Possess a neutral ID (SNID) or neutral travel document (SNTD); or
  • Possess an ID Card of Georgian citizen.

Program Funding:
