People residing in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions can benefit from Mother and Child Health Program free of charge.
Scope of the Program:
The goal of the Program is medical supervision of pregnant women and newborns, effective patronage and prevention of their health complications.
The Program provides financial and geographic access to various types of medical services and medicines for pregnant women and newborns.
The Program provides the following services:
- Antenatal care of pregnant women (including one postnatal visit (0-2 weeks after delivery), which includes a visit to an obstetrician-gynecologist as needed);
- Determination of B and C hepatitis, HIV Infection/AIDS and syphilis in pregnant women and prevention of transmission of hepatitis B from mother to child;
- Medical services in case of suspicion of syphilis;
- Early detection of genetic pathologies;
- Screening of newborns and children for hypothyroidism, phenylketonuria, hyperphenylalaninemia, mucoviscidosis, galactosemia, adrenogenital syndrome and biotinidase deficiency;
- Diagnostic examination of hearing in newborns;
- Provision of pharmaceutical products (folic acid and iron medicines).
To benefit from the antenatal care services provided by the Program, first of all, it is necessary for a woman to apply for a registration before the 13th week of pregnancy to a medical institution serving pregnant women in the frames of the Program.
Engagement in the Program and documents to be submitted:
To engage in the Program a person residing in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions should:
- Possess a personal identification number granted as result of registration; or
- Possess a neutral ID (SNID) or neutral travel document (SNTD); or
- Possess an ID Card of Georgian citizen.

Program Funding:
Mother and Child Health Program is completely free and does not require any co-payment from a patient.
